The Justice League director has a new upcoming movie for Netflix called Rebel Moon. This film is an epic space opera that he expects audiences to compare to Star Wars. This is because this film started out as a Star Wars film that Snyder introduced to Lucasfilm while he was in post-production on Man of Steel.

“There were seven samurai in space,” he said Rich. “And a Star Wars film was my original concept for it.” There were many reasons this film never materialized. “The sale (of Lucasfilm to Disney) had just happened,” says Zack Snyder. “There was this window where, you know, who knows what’s possible? I thought, “I don’t want any of your characters.” “I don’t want to do anything with any well-known characters, I just want to do my own thing on the side.” And originally I thought, “It should be rated R!” That was almost a failure .”

Rebel Moon will be released on Netflix on December 22, 2023.

The cast of Rebel Moon includes Sofia Boutella as Kora. The other characters are dubbed by Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Charlie Hunnam, Cary Elwes, and Anthony Hopkins.

“A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius,” reads the film’s synopsis. “The desperate civilians send Kora, a young woman with a mysterious past, to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them challenge the Regent.”
