What do we know about Young Love?
The series is based on Matthew A. Cherry’s 2019 short film Hair Love. The short follows a father (played by Cherry) trying for the first time to style his daughter’s hair following his wife’s instructions. No release information for Young Love is currently available. However, Max states that it is coming soon.
Originally produced following a Kickstarter campaign in 2017, the short received critical acclaim, including winning the Best Animated Short Film award at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards. A spin-off series was later commissioned by Max.
Young Love comes from Cherry and Carl Jones, who will both serve as showrunners. The film’s executive producers are Monica A. Young of Blue Key Entertainment and David Steward II and Carl Reed of Lion Forge Animation.
