What is the John Madden film about?
According to a recent report by Deadline, Ferrell will star in the film, which is being directed by the five-time Oscar-nominated director. The movie titled Driving me crazywill be for Amazon/MGM, with Russell having worked for some time rewriting Cambron Clark’s screenplay before the writers’ strike halted work on various Hollywood projects.
Madden is produced by Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jonathan Shukat, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, the latter a co-owner of the NFL’s New York Giants. Deadline reports that the NFL is expected to “accept” the film as well, although it’s unclear what exactly their promotion of the film will include.
“Madden, a Prime Video Sports Original, tells the story of one of the larger-than-life figures who grace an NFL sideline. “All Madden ever wanted was to be head coach, and he was one of the best of all time,” reads the film’s logline. “After he won the Super Bowl, the stress of the job started to wreak havoc on him. It forced him to leave his dream job and the film focuses on his friendship with Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis and how Madden found a second act that made him far more famous. ”
Most recently, Ferrell starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in the Christmas musical comedy Spirited in 2022. Next in 2023 he will have a voice role in the comedy Strays and appear as Mattel CEO in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
