Warner Bros. Television has reportedly put the final nail in the coffin of its upcoming live-action Powerpuff Girls series. powerpuff.

In May 2023, it was announced that Powerpuff would not be progressing on The CW. Brad Schwartz, the network’s president of entertainment, confirmed that the series has returned to Warner Bros. TV. This meant the studio could continue to develop the show, potentially allowing it to air on another platform. However, TVLine‘s’ Matt Webb Mitovich is now reporting that Warner Bros. has decided to scrap the series altogether. According to Mitovich’s sources, Powerpuff is no longer in any form or form in development.

The troubled development of The CW’s Powerpuff

In August 2020, it was reported that The CW was working on a live-action reboot of The Powerpuff Girls, the popular Cartoon Network animated series created by Craig McCracken. It was later revealed that the show was titled Powerpuff. It received a pilot order in February 2021. Chloe Bennett, Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault have been cast as the three leads, respectively, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup. Donald Faison was cast as her father, Professor Utonium.

However, in May 2021, it was revealed that The CW had decided not to bring Powerpuff to the series. The original plan was to retool and test the show with the same cast and creative team. But then, in August 2021, news broke that Bennet had left the project. Despite these setbacks and although there have been hardly any updates, Powerpuff is said to have still been in active development as of July 2022.

That brings us to last May when The CW canceled the series entirely. This move comes as part of the channel’s downsizing following its acquisition by Nexstar Media Group in October 2022. While the live-action reboot is no longer progressing, The Powerpuff Girls this time gets another animated reboot on Cartoon Network with the participation of the original creator McCracken.
