Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated next installment in the Dune series is almost here, and a recent report suggests it will be Duration of Dune: Part Two is over three hours long.
That’s according to a new report world of role, noting that the current cut of Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is a whopping 3 hours and 15 minutes long. Of course, with so much time between now and the planned premiere date of November 3, 2023, things are subject to change.
For comparison, the first “Dune” ran for 2 hours and 35 minutes, so it looks like the sequel will almost certainly be longer, regardless of how much of it is trimmed in the editing process.
What do we know about Dune: Part Two?
“This follow-up film will explore the mythical journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen as he embarks on a warpath of vengeance against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” reads the synopsis. “Faced with choosing between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he seeks to avert a terrifying future that only he can foresee.”
Dune: Part Two will once again be directed by Denis Villeneuve. The returning cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Stephen McKinley Henderson. They are joined by Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.
Upon release, the first film garnered acclaim from fans and critics alike. There were also a whopping ten Oscar nominations. He won six of them, including Best Original Music, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Camera, Best Production Design, and Best Visual Effects.
