Rainn Wilson says he was “mostly unhappy” continuing to play Dwight Schrute The office.
Accordingly Weekly entertainmentWilson spoke to Bill Maher on his Club Random Podcast When he revealed he was largely dissatisfied during filming of the hit NBC sitcom, as he’d rather be a movie star than work in television. “When I was in The office“I was really mostly unhappy for several years because it wasn’t enough,” Wilson said.
“I’m on one of the greatest shows on TV,” he continued. “People love it. I didn’t enjoy it. I thought, “Why am I not a movie star?” Why am I not the next Jack Black or the next Will Ferrell? How come I can’t make a film career? Why don’t I have this development contract?’”
Will Ferrell and Jack Black both appeared in The Office
Black and Ferrell both appeared during The Office’s run from 2005 to 2013. Black had a guest appearance in “Stress Relief,” the thirteenth episode of the show’s fifth season. He then appeared in a fake movie, along with Cloris Leachman and Jessica Alba, that Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) streamed on Andy Bernard’s (Ed Helms) laptop.
Ferrell, meanwhile, was introduced as Michael Scott’s replacement in the second half of the show’s seventh season after Steve Carell announced he was leaving the show. Ferrell took over the role after Carell left, but his time as manager of Dunder Mifflin was short-lived after he was hospitalized with a basketball injury.
Although best known as Dwight on The Office, Wilson appeared in several films while the series was still on air, including My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006), Juno (2007), Transformers: Die Revenge” (2009) and “Super” (2010). Since the end of The Office, Wilson has starred in Cooties (2014), Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017), The Meg (2018), and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022).
