In 1989, Jose and Kitty were shot multiple times with a shotgun at their Beverly Hills home. Her children, Lyle and Erik Menendez, were not originally suspects. However, due to the siblings’ excessive spending after their parents’ deaths, they were ultimately identified as potential suspects. Prosecutors accused her of killing her parents for their inheritance. During the high-profile trials, the brothers revealed that they were both physically, emotionally and sexually abused by their father, which forced them to murder their parents out of fear for their lives.
In 1996, Lyle and Erik Menendez were officially sentenced to life imprisonment. According to the broadcaster, Netflix also has “exclusive access” to the brothers for an upcoming documentary about the controversial case.
