The Horror of Dolores Roach trailer previews Amazon’s new take on Sweeney Todd

Amazon Studios dropped the officer The Horrors of Dolores Roach Trailer of the upcoming dark comedy thriller starring Justina Machado as a former convict masseuse turned serial killer. The series will be available to stream exclusively on Prime Video on July 7th.

The video shows Machado’s Dolores Roach trying to start a new life after serving a prison sentence. She gets her chance to be a masseuse when her longtime boyfriend offers the basement of his empanada shop as her office. But Dolores’ new life falls apart when she accidentally kills a customer. Her friend helps her get rid of the body by turning it into an ingredient for his empanada.

Who is involved in The Horror of Dolores Roach?

Based on the Spotify podcast of the same name, The Horror of Dolores Roach is described as a contemporary Sweeney Todd-inspired urban legend about love, betrayal, weed, cannibalism and survival of the fittest. It stars Justina Machado, Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike and K. Todd Freeman.

“In the series, Dolores Roach (Machado) is released after serving a wrongful 16-year sentence and returns to gentrified Washington Heights,” reads the synopsis. “Dolores reunites with an old stoner friend, Luis (Hernandez), who lets her live and work as a masseuse in the basement of his empanada shop. As the promise of her newfound stability quickly falls into jeopardy, “Magic Hands” Dolores must go to shocking extremes to survive.”

The Horrors of Dolores Roach adaptation was written and executive produced by the original podcast series creator and writer, Aaron Mark, who also serves as showrunner. Executive Producers are Dara Resnik, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, Dawn Ostroff, Mimi O’Donnell, Justin McGoldrick, Gloria Calderón Kellett and Roxann Dawson.
