Director Christopher Nolan compared that Oppenheimer End to end of another famous film of his, Inception.
The upcoming historical thriller follows physicist J Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) as he works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project that led to the development of the atomic bomb. It’s one of the most anticipated films of the year, with Nolan in the director’s chair and an all-star cast.
Nolan recently offered some thoughts on the ending of his 2010 sci-fi action film Inception, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio as a dream thief. The ending of “Inception” is famous for containing the song “Time” by Hans Zimmer and ending with an ambiguous take that makes you wonder if the protagonist is awake or dreaming.
“I mean, the ending of Inception is exactly that,” Nolan said Wired. “There’s a nihilistic view of this ending, isn’t there? But he has also moved on and is with his children. The ambiguity is not emotional ambiguity. It’s an intellectual affair for the audience. It’s funny, I think there’s an interesting relationship between the Inception and Oppenheimer endings to explore. Oppenheimer has a complicated ending. Complicated feelings.”
