The synopsis of The Color Purple describes it as “a musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the lifelong struggles of an African-American woman living in the South in the early 1900s.”

Who Makes The Color Purple?

The theatrical release is planned for December 25, 2023. The Color Purple is produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, who previously worked together on the 1985 film adaptation. Spielberg and Winfrey will be joined as producers by Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones, while Alice Walker, Rebecca Walker, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Carla Gardini and Mara Jacobs will serve as executive producers.

The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, HER, Halle Bailey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Fantasia Barrino.
