Per Rolling Stone, Barbie: The Album features music by Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala and The Kid Laroi . Mark Ronson is serving as the album’s executive producer. The album’s release coincides with the film’s July 21 release date.
The surprising name on the list is Gosling, who plays Ken. Gosling famously sang the Oscar-winning La La Land, the romantic musical by Damien Chazelle. Gosling is also a member of the rock group Dead Man’s Bones.
Who is involved in Barbie?
Margot Robbie plays the eponymous Barbie, Mattel’s iconic fashion doll. “After being kicked out of Barbieland for not being a perfect doll, Barbie sets off into the real world to find true happiness,” reads the official synopsis. Gosling plays Ken for Robbie’s Barbie.
Barbie will feature different versions of Barbie and Ken. Actors playing a different version of Barbie include Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya and Dua Lipa.
Gosling, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and John Cena will also appear as alternate variations of Ken
Greta Gerwig is directing Barbie from a screenplay she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach. Barbie is inspired by the doll and Mary Pipher’s 1994 non-fiction book Reviving Ophelia. Robbie, David Heyman, Robbie Brenner and Tom Ackerley serve as producers. Barbie is a Warner Bros. Pictures Production.
