In 2022, Terrifier 2 became a viral hit. Written, directed, edited and produced by Damien Leone, the gory slasher film grossed $15.1 million on a budget of $250,000. Cinverse Corp. has secured the North American rights to the third film in the Terrifier franchise.
Leone spoke up diversity about taking back some of the film’s fantasy elements.
“I wanted Part 2 to be reminiscent of Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. That was my tone in the back of my mind and I knew I would really embrace that supernatural and imaginative element. I also knew that going that route would piss off a handful of fans. I personally love it,” Leone said.
“But the biggest mistake I could make right now would be to double down on that fantasy aspect. So I would like to correct the course a bit; Let’s go back to the first part of “Nightmare on Elm Street” and let’s not dwell on “Dream Warriors”. This could be a very helpful critique and help me make a better film in the future. But we will see.”
When is the Terrifier 3 release date?
Terrifier 3 is slated to hit theaters in Fall 2024. After the success of the sequel, there will be a big theatrical release.
“Once I figured out what Part Two was, I knew it was going to be at least a trilogy, so I’ve been working on it since I finished Part Two,” says Leone. “Even while I was writing part two, I actually had scenes that I had already written for part three because I knew where it was going. I want to go back a bit to the tone of part one, which I felt was a bit plain and old-fashioned dark slasher. I want this film to go back in that direction, and I want this to be the scariest part of the trilogy.”
“This one will actually have a slightly more evil undertone, so hopefully this will be the scariest and darkest.” I want it to feel like audiences that come to this film aren’t as comfortable with Art the Clown as they think they are now. I want to see if I can make them really scared of him again.”
