What is the latest casting update for Superman Legacy?
The Hollywood Reporter published an article addressing the Superman: Legacy screen testing process, confirming previous reports claiming Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet and Tom Brittney would audition for Clark Kent/Superman, while Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan and Phoebe Dynevor to audition for the role of Lois Lane.
The actors and actresses of Superman and Lois Lane were apparently made up and dressed for their respective roles. Shortly thereafter, Hoult, Brittney and Corenswet did more screen tests, while only Mackey returned for more screen tests of Lois Lane, although the station’s sources note that this is not an indication that Mackey is the front runner.
The report notes that there is also a shortlist for Lex Luthor, and that brothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgård are in contention for the role of Luthor. It’s unclear if Hoult, who was originally set to play the villain, will appear for Luthor alongside Superman. Members of DC supergroup The Authority will also be cast, as the world of Superman: Legacy is reportedly already set to feature superheroes.
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to balance his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Production on Superman: Legacy is expected to begin in early 2024, in line with its currently scheduled theatrical release of July 11, 2025.
