Star Wars: Natalie Portman opens up about a possible return as Padmé Amidala

Almost twenty years later war of stars When fans last saw Natalie Portman’s Padmé Amidala, the Oscar-winning actress finally addressed a possible return to a galaxy far, far away. In a recent interview with GQ, Portman admitted that she hasn’t closed the door to the series just yet. However, there are currently no plans.

“I have no information on (coming back),” Portman said of Padmé Amidala’s potential return. “No one has ever asked me to come back, but I’m open to it.”

Should Lucasfilm find a way to bring Padmé Amidala back, the timing couldn’t be better. Co-star Hayden Christensen returned as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi last year. Christensen is also expected to return for the upcoming Ahsoka series, which will see Ahsoka Tano and Anakin in live action together for the first time.

What upcoming Star Wars movies are in development?

During the 2023 Star Wars celebration, Lucasfilm announced the development of three Star Wars films. This included a project involving the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker. Ridley’s untitled feature film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), from a screenplay written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. It’s reportedly set 15 years after the events of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and will see Rey building a new Jedi order.

The second untitled film is announced as a crossover event, bringing together connected stories from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and other upcoming Disney+ shows. Directed by Dave Filoni, best known for the popular animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Both series introduced a number of fan-favorite characters, including Bo Khatan.

Lucasfilm has also hired Logan filmmaker James Mangold to direct a film about Dawn of the Jedi. It will be set thousands of years before A New Hope. In addition to the three new projects, the long-in-development Star Wars films by Taika Waititi and Rian Johnson are still in active development.
