Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has achieved the second biggest Thursday night box office hit in the Spider-Man franchise.
The new animated superhero film follows Miles Morales/Spider-Man (Shameik Moore) as he embarks on another adventure through the multiverse with Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider (Hailee Steinfeld). This film is the sequel to the hit 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Across the Spider-Verse grossed $17.35 million at the box office in Thursday’s previews. For comparison, the film’s prequel earned about $3.5 million in Thursday night previews. The whopping $17.35 million is the second-biggest Thursday night opening in Spider-Man history, trailing only $50 million in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Ultimately, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is expected to gross $80-$90 million in its opening weekend. That’s more than double the $35.4 million opening weekend of its predecessor.
