“Sly” is directed by Thom Zimny ​​​​(Springsteen on Broadway). The trailer for the Netflix documentary revolves around the aforementioned Stallone speaking philosophically about the sacrifices, fears and insecurities that come with filmmaking.

“For nearly 50 years, Sylvester Stallone has entertained millions with iconic characters and blockbuster franchises, from Rocky to Rambo to The Expendables,” reads Sly’s official logline. “This retrospective documentary offers an intimate look at the Oscar-nominated actor, writer, director and producer and parallels his inspirational underdog story with the indelible characters he brought to life.”

Sylvester Stallone’s Hollywood Legacy

Soon to be 77, Stallone began his acting career in 1969. He is best known for his role as Rocky Balboa in the legendary 1976 boxing film Rocky, for which he also wrote the screenplay. Stallone reprized his role as Rocky in five sequels as well as the first two installments of the spin-off series Creed.

Stallone added another iconic character to his resume in 1982 by playing John J. Rambo in the action film First Blood. He reprized the role in four sequels. Stallone’s other notable roles include Sergeant John Spartan in Demolition Man (1993), the title role in the comic book adaptation Judge Dredd (1995) and The Toymaker in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003).

More recently, Stallone has starred in The Expendables series, sharing the screen with other ’80s action stars like Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He’s even earned a place in the two biggest modern superhero franchises, playing Stakar Ogord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and King Shark in the DC Extended Universe.
