Dwayne Johnson He reportedly struggled to get the green light for his films.
Known by many as “The Rock,” the 51-year-old wrestler-turned-actor has been appearing in films for decades. But even this popular movie star and action hero hasn’t had the easiest time in Hollywood.
“The Rock had a really hard time getting the green light,” said film critic Jeff Sneider on his podcast The Hot Mic, starring Jeff Sneider and John Rocha. “I’ve heard that Dwayne is struggling to get the green light after his recent films, which are Jungle Cruise, Red Notice and (and) Black Adam. And so basically he was forced to go back to the character of Hobbs and do this (Fast & Furious) franchise. And what doesn’t bode well is that this person also says that Red One is no good either. Red One is his upcoming Amazon album, and I’ve heard Amazon is the latest studio to say, ‘Yeah, we’ve had that experience again.'”
What happened to The Rock and Vin Diesel?
After starring in the Fast & Furious movies together, Dwayne Johnson and his co-star Vin Diesel began an infamous feud on the set of The Fate of the Furious. This led to The Rock initially refusing to reprise his role as Hobbs in future episodes, which was once telling CNN“My goal has always been to end my amazing journey with this incredible Fast & Furious franchise full of gratitude and grace.” It is unfortunate that this public dialogue has clouded the situation. That notwithstanding, I have faith in the Near Universe and its ability to consistently deliver to audiences, and I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”
However, in a new statement Dwayne Johnson released on Twitter, he confirmed that he and Diesel had done everything right, saying: “Last summer, Vin and I put all of the past behind us. We will proceed with brotherhood and determination – always caring about the franchise, the characters and the FANS we love.”
Perhaps Dwayne Johnson’s return as Luke Hobbs is due to his difficulties getting projects greenlit while also winning over critics. His next film appearance is in Red One, an action-adventure holiday film starring Chris Evans and JK Simmons, which will be released in late 2023. It has also been confirmed that he will reprise his role as Maui in a live-action Moana remake. He will be playing Hobbs again in the upcoming Fast X: Part II.
