Originally scheduled for a limited release of the film on August 4th, the film has now been pushed back to an indefinite date to be set much later.

This is the latest film release to be affected by the ongoing strikes. Should SAG-AFTRA fail to reach a fair conclusion with AMPTP soon, other upcoming high-profile theatrical releases are also likely to be delayed.

Who is the cast of Problemista?

Problemista is written and directed by Julio Torres, best known for his work on the HBO comedy series Los Espookys. Torres in the film is joined by Tilda Swinton (The Souvenir) as Elizabeth, RZA (The Dead Don’t Die) as Bobby, Isabella Rossellini (Crime of the Century) as the narrator, Catalina Saavedra (The Maid) as Dolores, Greta Lee (Past Lives) as Dalia, James Scully (You) as Bingham and more.

“In the film, Alejandro is an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador struggling to bring his unusual ideas to life in New York City,” reads the synopsis. “When his work visa time runs out, a job as an assistant to an unpredictable art-world outsider becomes his only hope of staying in the country and pursuing his dream. Writer/director Julio Torres presents a surreal adventure through the equally treacherous worlds of New York City and the US immigration system.”

Problemista is produced by Torres, Ali Hertin, Dave McCary, Neha Simon and Emma Stone. The film had its world premiere at SXSW 2023.
