Phoebe Waller-Bridge is considering converting Donald Glover’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover were set to produce one Mr and Mrs Smith TV Series for Amazon. However, Waller-Bridge left the project — in what she acknowledges as a dysfunctional creative marriage.

Speak with Vanity Fair, Waller-Bridge was asked about the project. She admitted she worked on it for about “six months with all my heart and mind.” The actress and writer went on to note that while she believes the show will be “brilliant,” sometimes you have to know when to abandon a project and “don’t get in the way of a vision.”

“I worked wholeheartedly and wholeheartedly on this show for six months, and I really cared about it—and still care about it,” Waller-Bridge said. “And I know it’s going to be great. But sometimes it’s all about knowing when to leave the party. You don’t want to get in the way of a vision.”

She continued that creative collaboration is like marriage and that sometimes “some marriages don’t work out.”

When Waller-Bridge left the series in September 2021, the decision was noted as amicable, there was no bad blood between her and Glover. As for the actress, she is next set to star in the upcoming movie Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny as well as the fantasy comedy IF (2024).

What is Mr. & Mrs. Smith about?

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a reboot of the 2005 action comedy film of the same name directed by Doug Liman. The film was co-created and produced by Glover and Francesca Sloane, who both serve as showrunners. The project will form part of Glover’s overall deal with Amazon Studios.

Executive producers are New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer, and Wells Street Films’ Jenny Robins. Its debut is scheduled on Prime Video.

The original film was penned by Simon Kinberg. The focus is on an upper-class couple, both of whom work part-time as assassins for competing agencies and are tasked with killing each other. It was directed by Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
