Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey wowed audiences as Joel and Ellie on HBO’s The Last of Us. However, as they prepare for season two, the two still feel the pressure.
Speak with meeting In a profile of the couple, both Ramsey and Pascal spoke about the upcoming second season of the show. When asked if they still feel the pressure to perform well, Ramsey said it’s still there, but has “reduced” a bit.
“I think in a way it’s gone down,” Ramsey said. “But it’s still more there than before because it’s been so successful. So there is pressure to do it again, but better. But I think if we think about it too much, there’s nothing we can do. You just have to do it, right? There’s no way you can sit down and say, “Right, how do I do this better?” You just go and do it. But because I don’t have to write or produce it, I can just walk in on the day and hope for the best.”
Pascal said the fear was a “challenge”. The actor noted that HBO and those behind the scenes – including Criag Mazin and Neil Druckmann – are a big help. He also mentioned his experience in previous hit series like Game of Thrones, Narcos and The Mandalorian as a good experience.
“I know it’s a challenge, but one we can overcome,” said Pascal. “It’s a bit scary. Because we’re going into the second season in the way it’s already been received, so it’s already started with some pressure. It would actually be strange if we didn’t feel it. But considering how popular the game is, we’re in good hands.”

The Last of Us starred Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Season 1 also starred Nico Parker, Anna Torv, Melanie Lynskey, Murray Bartlett, Nick Offerman and Storm Reid.
