What are the new Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan horror movies?
German distributor Dolphin Medien will be collaborating with British horror production house Red Shadow Studios to produce a handful of horror films based on these qualities. The first, Winnie the Pooh: Death House, will be described as “The Strangers meets The Purge” and will be a stylized serial killer take on the classic character. The film is written by Red Shadow’s Adam Stephen Kelly and directed by SJ Evans.
According to Variety, Winnie the Pooh: Death House follows an “unexpected school reunion at a remote country estate – an event orchestrated by members of a cult who, as children, were mercilessly tormented by the guests.” Now, years later, they’re up cruel revenge.β The filming of the project is already underway.
βThe script is extremely clever, with room for iconic imagery, and we’ve assembled a great young cast with star potential. I’m so excited to share this dark and disturbing horror with the world,” director SJ Evans said in a statement about the film
The horror film based on Peter Pan is titled Peter Pan Goes to Hell and is said to be a slasher film in the style of Psycho and Nightmares in a Damaged Brain. The film was also written by Adam Stephen Kelly and directed by Phil Claydon (Lesbian Vampire Killers). In a statement about the project, Claydon expressed excitement at the opportunity to join the project and “spread some grassroots fear”.
“I grew up on a healthy diet of low-budget horror movies from masters like Sam Raimi, Wes Craven, and Peter Jackson,” Claydon said. “In recent streamer days, the opportunities to create highly conceptualized horror on a budget were gone, so I reveled in the opportunity to jump on board with Red Shadow Studios and create an environment where filmmakers can come and do some basics scary movies.β Let the chaos begin.β
The films are the latest in a long line of horror film takes on classic properties. This company took off when the copyright protection for the iconic characters expired. Since it re-entered the public domain there have been a handful of Winnie the Pooh creations – most notably the horror film Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
