The return of Magnum PI was announced by NBC, with the final episodes of the series set to premiere on Wednesday, October 4th. Magnum PI Season 5 Part Two was originally scheduled for release in 2024.
On June 23, it was announced that Magnum PI would end after the remaining ten episodes of season five. NBC’s decision to cancel the reboot was reportedly related to the fact that cast options were running out. The network ultimately chose to end the series rather than renew the cast’s contracts or hand out a season six renewal, in part due to uncertainties over how long the current WGA strike will last.
Magnum PI is an updated version of the 1980’s series directed by Tom Selleck. It was developed by Peter M. Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim, with Jay Hernandez in the title role. Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Amy Hill and Tim Kang also star.
