Moana live-action remake finds its director

Kail is recognized for directing the Broadway productions of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musicals “In the Heights” and “Hamilton.” In addition to his theater work, he has also directed shows including several episodes of 2 Broke Girls and Fosse/Verdon, the latter of which earned him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Director for a Limited Series. The live-action adaptation of Moana marks Kail’s feature film directorial debut.

Who is involved in the Moana remake?

The Moana live-action remake is being produced by Dwayne Johnson, who plans to return for the remake, as well as Dany and Hiram Garcia via their Seven Bucks Productions banner and Beau Flynn for Flynn Picture Co. Auli’s will direct as executive producer. i Cravalho – the voice of Moana in the 2016 film – and Scott Sheldon of Flynn Picture Co. Jared Bush, who wrote the screenplay for Moana, will also be co-producing the remake alongside Samoan industry pro Dana Ledoux Miller.

The original was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. Not only was it a commercial success, grossing over $600 million, but it also received positive reviews from critics and two Academy Award nominations, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song.
