The new action spy movie Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is on the hunt for the best opening weekend at the box office of the entire series.

Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt in the seventh film in the series. “Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a terrible new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands,” reads the official summary. “With control of the future and fate of the world at stake, a deadly race across the globe begins. Faced with a mysterious, all-powerful foe, Ethan must remember that nothing can be more important than the mission—not even the lives of those he cares about most.”

The new movie is projected grossed $90 million at the domestic box office in its five-day opening weekend and $65 million in a three-day opening. The series’ current box office record holder is Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), which grossed $61.2 million in its three-day opening weekend. This would make the seventh part the best theatrical release in franchise history.
