The esteemed actor recently appeared in the new DC Extended Universe film The Flash, reprising his role in 2013’s Man of Steel as the villainous General Zod. He recently opened up about his decision to avoid appearing in big franchises like Star Wars.

“I’m always a little wary of these big movies” shannon told Rich. “Because they take up a lot of time and I don’t find them very stimulating to work on. I never want to get stuck in a franchise. I don’t find them interesting and don’t want to immortalize them.”

“When I do something, I want it to have a purpose,” adds Shannon. “I don’t want to make pointless conversations. The world doesn’t need more mindless entertainment. We will be inundated with it.”
