What did Mark Ruffalo have to say?

The actor recently took to social media to share his thoughts on the ongoing strike. In a lengthy thread, Ruffalo pushed for a more competitive market alongside what he called the “billionaire empire.” Specifically, Ruffalo suggested the creators build their own film and television system that would offer more diverse sales opportunities.

“How about we all jump into the indies scene now?” Ruffalo said. “Content creators creating a film and television production system alongside the studio and streaming networks? So there is real competition. Then we just do what we always do: create great content and they can buy it, or we take it out ourselves and WE share in those sales.”

Ruffalo then took aim at Hollywood studios, saying they had created “an empire of billionaires” who now believe actors have no value. To counteract this, Ruffalo said, actors should “organize a new world for workers.”

“They’ve built an empire of billionaires and they think we’re worthless,” Ruffalo said. “While they hang around at the billionaire boy’s summer camps and laugh like fat cats, we organize a new world for workers. A sure way to strengthen our position now is to be very supportive and friendly to all independent projects right away. Urge every SAG-AFTRA member to immediately join those receiving SAG-AFTRA (WGA) WAIVERS. The studios have no competition – that will change.”
