In a recent interview with colliders, Madam Web Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke about Sony Pictures’ upcoming Spider-Man spin-off. The producer described it as “a different kind of movie in this universe”.

The highly anticipated film was originally slated to hit theaters in 2023 and hit theaters next year on February 16, 2024.

Di Bonaventura teased that the live-action Madame Web won’t be your average Marvel movie because “it’s not an action movie,” it’s “more of a thriller.” Why? The title character’s tricky abilities “are not conducive to an action part.”

Still, the blockbuster producer promised that the Dakota Johnson-directed film “will still be familiar to audiences as far as the universe it’s set in.”

Who is the cast of Madame Web?

Sony’s Madame Web is headlined by Dakota Johnson as the eponymous Spider-Man character. Johnson will be joined by Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight) and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), as well as Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps ( The Upshaws) and Adam Scott (Severance).

Madame Web is directed by SJ Clarkson (Jessica Jones) from a screenplay by Morbius writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Further plot details are yet to be revealed, but rumors have it that the film will take place before Peter Parker is born.
