Michael K Williams Surrounded co-star Letitia Wright and director Anthony Mandler reminisced about Surrounded.

Williams was a popular actor, best known for his role as Omar Little on the HBO television series The Wire. In September 2021, Williams died of a drug overdose in Brooklyn, NY. His final film role is in new western drama Surrounded, in which he plays Will Clay.

In an exclusive interview with actress Letitia Wright (Black Panther, Death on the Nile), she opened up about working with Williams. “He’s a great artist — really dedicated,” Wright told ComingSoon. “Jamie and I had already built that vibe just by working hard. Then he came on set and just joined us, it was a perfect fit for us. I was able to learn so much from him between those moments on set. Laughing, joking, sharing great memories – I also spent my first Thanksgiving with him. We all celebrated Thanksgiving at my house in New Mexico. So just nice, nice memories of him and yeah… really, really wish he was here with us man.”

Director Anthony Mandler also reflected on his time working with Williams. “Michael was a dear friend of mine and someone I loved and admired as a person and as an artist. It is truly an honor for me to bring this film to the screen. It will be his last appearance we will see. Michael brought depth and energy to everything he did. The way he impersonated characters was how he essentially managed his own pain, stress and trauma. So in a way there was relationship tension when it came to love and trust, violence and peace. What I love about this character is how he comes out of the night and he’s absolutely the character she should trust the most.”

When is the Surrounded movie release date?
