The highly anticipated third season of Netflix The Witcher is almost here, and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and actress Joey Batey detailing what to expect in the new season from Jaskier.
In an interview with Netflix Ahead of the third season premiere, Schmidt-Hissrich said that Jaskier would “blossom” this season and that the character is falling in love with someone fans know and who appears often in the books.
“Jaskier falls in love,” said Schmidt Hissrich. “And it’s a character that fans know (and continues to appear in the books). So what happens between them this season will have repercussions for a very long time.”
Batey also commented on his character’s launch in Season 3, noting that Jaskier is going to have a “hot girl summer” of sorts.
“He’s having his hot girly summer,” Batey said. “It was really rewarding to see how (his love life) was told in a very visual way. (We) made sure these romances were told truthfully – and sensitively and carefully, without resorting to stereotypes… Hopefully we’ve created something special, a sapioromantic and sapiosexual (connection) that’s as flawed as every other relationship in this series . ”
Of course, Jaskier will still have responsibilities, something Batey said the character wasn’t exactly cut out for, but that’s something you have to learn.
“He’s certainly a man of many trades, but I’m not sure he’s naturally suited to be a spy,” Batey said. “Nevertheless, in a time of war and turmoil, he is trying his best to do some good.”
