“When The Joe Schmo Show launched 20 years ago, it was ahead of its time,” said Jason Sarlanis, president of Turner Networks, ID and HLN, Linear & Streaming. “By reimagining this classic for a modern, savvy audience, we have an opportunity to comment on reality television’s often absurd and hilarious tropes in a way that our viewers will enjoy.”

The original series premiered on the Spike cable network in 2003 and ran for three seasons. However, the show’s first season became its most notorious. Featuring a litany of actors who would go on to become hugely popular – including Kristen Wiig, David Hornsby, Ralph Garman and Lance Krall – the season culminated with contestant David Gould winning $100,000.
