Jim Brown, one of the greatest football players of all time and an acting legend, has passed away at the age of 87.

Jim Brown, one of the greatest football players of all time and an acting legend, has passed away at the age of 87.

Brown’s death was confirmed by his wife Monique, who announced the news in an Instagram post on Friday. Brown’s wife said in the post that the football icon “passed away peacefully” at their home in Los Angeles on Thursday night.

“To the world he was an activist, actor and football star,” the post reads. “To our family he was a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Our hearts are broken…”

Best known for his incredible career as a football player, Brown is often considered one of the greatest players in NFL history. In his nine years as a player, Brown set the most rushing records of his time and was inducted not only into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but also into the NFL’s 50th, 75th and 100th Anniversary all-time teams appointed.

In addition to his football career, Brown also had an extensive list of acting roles, including a starring role in the 1967 classic The Dirty Dozen. After retiring from the NFL while filming the film, Brown embarked on a long acting career and appeared in films like “I Spy”, “Draft Day”, “Mars Attacks!” and “The A-Team”.
