Director James Cameron has denied all rumors of working on a film about the OceanGate submersible incident.
Cameron has no intention of ever making a film about the OceanGate submersible
Following comments from Cameron about the submersible that sank trying to visit the Titanic wreck last month, rumors surfaced that Cameron was in talks to make a film about the incident. However, Cameron was quick to deny what he called “insulting rumors” on Twitter, noting that not only were “no talks going on about an OceanGate movie,” but that he would never do anything like it.
Cameron spoke out about the incident shortly after it was revealed that the submersible had imploded while attempting to visit the wreck of the Titanic. The legendary director – who is himself an experienced deep sea diver – cautioned people to be careful when attempting something as dangerous as deep sea diving, while also pointing to the similarities between the actual Titanic disaster and the situation with the OceanGate- submersible.
“I’m struck by the resemblance of the Titanic disaster itself,” said Cameron. “Where the captain was repeatedly warned of ice ahead of his ship and yet he steamed into an ice field at full speed.”
Cameron’s comments were disputed by OceanGate co-founder Guillermo Söhnlein, who said it was incorrect to speculate about what happened inside the ship.
