Jack Quaid reveals inspiration for my adventures with Superman

Jack Quaid is expected to star in the upcoming DC animated series My Adventures With Superman. To prepare for his role, he immersed himself in one of the greatest Superman stories of all time.

What did Jack Quaid read to prepare for My Adventures With Superman?

Speak with collidersQuaid revealed he did some research on the legendary superhero to get inspiration for his upcoming role.

“(…) All-Star Superman was a huge inspiration,” said Quaid. “I think in this film you can really see how completely authentic this character is. Superman For All Seasons does something similar. Those were two really big inspirations for my interpretation of Superman.”

Quaid focused on Clark’s real nature as a particular point of inspiration.

“What I liked about this version is that he’s Clark first,” he said. “Clark isn’t a person that he dresses to look more attractive or to make people underestimate him. That’s how he is deep down, and he’s still trying to figure out who he is as Superman while juggling being an intern at a newspaper. He really wants to be a reporter too, which I think is so cool.”

Often touted as one of the greatest Superman stories of all time, All-Star Superman focuses on a Superman who dies from excessive exposure to the sun. The series is said to be one of the inspirations for James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy.

While Quaid took inspiration from various comic series, he also brought a lot of his own personality to the character.

“But yeah, I definitely gave it my own personality,” Quaid said. “You know, I’m also a person in my twenties trying to figure out who I am and where I fit in. I think it was therapeutic and very funny to be kind of throwing back those days in this character. Very very cool.”

My Adventures with Superman launches on Adult Swim on July 7, 2023 and will also be available on Max. The series is executive produced by Sam Register, Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher, with Josie Campbell serving as executive producer. It stars Jack Quaid as Clark Kent/Superman, Alice Lee as Lois Lane and Ishmel Sahid as Jimmy Olsen.
