Jonathan Sim: You’re working with Wes Anderson again on this film. So I wanted to ask: what sets Wes Anderson’s directing style apart from the other directors you’ve worked with that made you want to come back for Asteroid City?

Adrian Brody: Well, as you can see from his work and from every frame in his films, Wes is quite a unique filmmaker. He’s a true auteur filmmaker and while these films are very different you can really see his artistry skills, writing style and visual language and it really is a deeply beautiful piece of work and very intricate and always a pleasure .

The writing style is always fun, intricate and suspenseful, and it creates that wonderful family feel, which is also unique in that everyone stays together. We work together. We come home, stay in the same hotel and eat in the same restaurant every night. And in that sense, it’s just unusual. But if Wes calls, each of us will just drop by.

It’s a very cosmic movie that’s about extraterrestrials and things like that. So here’s a fun question. If ever an extraterrestrial arrived on earth and you both could show him at least one of your movies or series, which movie or show you would be most proud of, would you show the extraterrestrial how he presents himself in this kind of light?

Jeffrey Wright: The proudest? I have a few of these that luckily I kinda like. I did a film (“Ride with the Devil”) with Ang Lee many years ago, a Civil War film. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had working on a film. And we rode horses in Kansas and Missouri all day for six months. And it’s a film about the Civil War – did I say that? – told from an interesting perspective. So if I think an extraterrestrial came along and wanted to know about the history of America and who we are, where we are, maybe this one. I think it’s also just a beautiful film that was kind of undermined by the studio at the time and so underappreciated. For this reason it has an even more special place in my cinematic heart.

Adrian Brody: I would of course show him Predators.

Oh I love Predators.

Adrian Brody: Just to show you what it’s like here. Maybe you want to get out of here soon.

Hey, that’s one of my favorite performances of yours.

Adrian Brody: Oh thanks, it was fun.
