In a recent interview with discussion about movieBlumhouse founder Jason Blum spoke about the future of the insidious franchise and confirms that there are currently no plans for a sixth installment after Insidious: The Red Door hits theaters. Blum announced that the blockbuster horror franchise will be on hiatus as it could be a while before fans can revisit The Further.

“You better check out this Insidious, it’s the last one! (laughs) To give a more serious answer, (The Red Door) will be the last we see of Insidious for a while. It may not be a forever hiatus, but it will certainly be a very long hiatus,” Blum said. “So if someone has an idea in 10 years, who knows? But there is no plan – like every previous Insidious film – and there is no current plan for number six.”

It’s unclear if the hiatus would only apply to the main series, especially since it was recently reported that Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore will star in a standalone spin-off titled Thread: An Insidious Tale. The project centers on a married couple who travel back in time to prevent the death of their daughter.

What awaits you in Insidious: The Red Door?

Insidious: The Red Door, the directorial debut of leading actor Patrick Wilson, will once again shift the focus of the story to the Lambert family. Fans last saw her in 2013’s “Insidious: Chapter 2,” where Josh and Dalton decided to suppress their memories to prevent them from ever astrally projecting again and delving into “The Further.” In the new film, the story will continue a decade after the events of Chapter 2, with Dalton going to college, exploring his astral projection abilities, and growing up.

The fifth installment will see the return of Wilson (The Conjuring films) and Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3), reprising their respective roles as Josh and Dalton. Insidious 5 is directed by Wilson from a screenplay by Scott Teems (“Halloween Kills”), based on a story by Leigh Whannell and Jason Blum. This is the first time in the franchise that Whannell is not writing the screenplay. It is produced by Blum, Whannell, Wan and Oren Peli.

The franchise began in 2011 with James Wan’s Insidious. It was a huge hit, receiving generally positive reviews from critics and audiences, and grossed nearly $100 million at the box office. Its success not only helped revitalize the careers of Wan and author Whannell, but also helped Blumhouse Productions continue its current mammoth box-office status.
