Issa Raes Unsure is the first HBO show to land Netflix.

Insecure is a comedy-drama series co-created by Rae and Larry Wilmore based on Rae’s web series Awkward Black Girl. Exploring the experiences of black women in the modern world, Insecure follows two women, Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji), as they attempt to navigate their personal lives, relationships and careers while confronting diverse hardships and struggles. The series, which began in 2016 before ending in December 2021, received numerous Emmy nominations during its run, including acting nominations for Rae and Orji and a 2020 award for Outstanding Single Camera Editing for a Comedy Series. Jay Ellis , Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales and Kendrick Sampson also star in the show.
The agreement between HBO and Netflix is part of a co-exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max. HBO has rarely licensed original shows to other streaming platforms or television networks in the past; However, CEO David Zaslav has started buying certain shows to boost the company’s finances.
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery allowed series like Westworld, Raised by Wolves, and The Nevers to stream for free on Roku and Tubi after they were canceled and then removed from HBO Max.
