Hulk Hogan changed his lifestyle
In a recent appearance on Men’s Health’s Gym & Fridge series, Hogan gave fans a tour of his fridge. He spoke about some of the more positive changes he’d made in his life. Hogan, 69, revealed he’s been sober for about six months and had to stop after he started drinking alcohol to “numb” himself.
“I don’t drink alcohol at all,” Hogan said. “…It had to be a way to numb myself a little because I was having a bunch of crazy business and personal issues and I found myself being too aggressive with alcohol after a workout. So I just had to stop doing it.”
Hogan also said that as he nears his 70th birthday, he’s also paying more attention to his diet. The superstar said his body “kind of turned it off” about 15 years ago. After multiple knee surgeries and over 40 years of wrestling, he had to change his “entire lifestyle.”
“About 15 years ago my body kind of shut me down. I had multiple knee surgeries and then, after wrestling for nearly 40 years, my body gave out,” Hogan said. “I had back surgery and that turned into ten back surgeries. Both knees had to be replaced. Both hips were replaced. I had to have a couple of facial surgeries because I ruptured my orbital socket a couple of times. And it ended up being 25 or 26 surgeries or a few more over a 10 or 12 year period.
“So it changed the game for me. It made everything different for me and I changed my entire lifestyle because at the time I was in so much pain and getting older I couldn’t carry that much weight. If you’re sedentary and don’t wrestle or exercise every night, it’s easy to gain weight. So I decided to lose weight and get down to about 265. The last time I weighed 265 was in ninth grade.”
