As part of the film, a fascinating documentary about the Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team will premiere HBO Max schedule for May 15-21.
Beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Tuesday, May 16, HBO and HBO Max subscribers can watch “Angel City,” an HBO-Original documentary about the origin story of Angel City Football Club. Two more episodes will follow on Wednesday, May 17th and Thursday, May 18th. Founded by Academy Award winner Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman and Julie Uhrman, the team was announced in July 2020 and began play in 2022. Angel City will take over the backstage spectators during the team’s inaugural season.
Directed by Arlene Nelson, Angel City features candid interviews with the co-founders and several team members from the players and coaching staff, including Christen Press, Freya Coombe and more.
“Angel City is a compelling documentary that takes a behind-the-scenes, on-court look at the pioneering Los Angeles-based women’s professional soccer team, Angel City Football Club (ACFC). ACFC was founded in September 2020 by actress Natalie Portman, venture capitalist Kara Nortman and gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman. ACFC breaks new ground by being the largest majority ownership group by women in professional sports and bringing on board 14 former US women’s national team players as investors.”
The project is produced by MountainA and Little Monster Films in association with O’Malley Creadon Productions. Portman also served as executive producer with Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin, Anna Barnes, Sophie Mas and Christine O’Malley. Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller and Bentley Weiner were executive producers for HBO.
