Barbie director Greta Gerwig has opened up about directing a James Bond film.

When Gerwig’s new Barbie film, starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, was released, it received critical acclaim. However, this isn’t the first time she’s received positive reviews, having already garnered critical acclaim for her work on Lady Bird and Little Women.

No wonder she was hired to direct two The Chronicles of Narnia movies for Netflix. She has previously stated her intention to make a big career studio manager. In a current podcastGerwig shared an update on her Narnia films and was then asked if she would direct a film in the famous James Bond film series.

“Oh dear God. We’ll stick to a couple of lions and a couple of dolls for now,” said Greta Gerwig. “But you never know. I really like (Bond franchise producer) Barbara Broccoli, so…”

Another director recently asked about directing Bond is Christopher Nolan, whose new film Oppenheimer hits theaters on the same day as Barbie. “The impact of these films on my filmography is embarrassingly obvious. It would be an incredible privilege to do one,” Nolan said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “At the same time, when you take on a character like that, you’re working with certain limitations.”

Nolan continued, “It has to be the right moment in your creative life where you can express what you want to express and really delve into something within the confines of that, because you would never want to take something like that and do it wrong.”
