The Cast of Gladiator 2 has been rounded, with meeting reports that the film has added six actors to the highly anticipated sequel directed by Ridley Scott.
Gladiator 2’s cast includes May Calamawy (Moon Knight), Lior Raz (Netflix’s Fauda), Derek Jacobi (Good Omens), Peter Mensah (Avatar, 300) and Matt Lucas (Wonka). Deadline also notes that Fred Hechinger (“The White Lotus”) is in talks to replace Barry Keoghan in the role of Emperor Geta. Keoghan was scheduled to star in the film but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
It’s currently unclear who the six new actors will play, as most of the details of the untitled sequel are under wraps.
Who else is in Gladiator 2?
Ridley Scott will direct Gladiator 2 from a script by David Scarpa. The sequel is set to take place years after the events of the first film. Paul Mescal will play Lucius, son of Nielsen’s Lucilla, in the first film. Also starring are Oscar winners Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal.
“Gladiator 2” is being produced by Scott and Scott Free President Michael Pruss, and Red Wagon Entertainment’s Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher. Universal also has rights to collaborate on the project once it’s complete, since they co-produced the original with DreamWorks. Also joining the cast are costume designer Janty Yates and production designer Arthur Max.
The original film was directed by Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Oliver Reed, Djimon Hounsou, Tommy Flanagan, and others. The film centers on a disgraced Roman general who becomes a gladiator after being betrayed by Commodus, the emperor’s greedy son. The role of Maximus is often seen as a career-boosting role for Crowe, who gained worldwide acclaim for his compelling performance.
