Futurama has already been revived

As the poster’s tagline suggests, Hulu’s upcoming revival isn’t the first time Futurama has evaded death. The series initially ran for four seasons from 1999 to 2003 on Fox. After the initial take, Futurama was revived for four direct-to-video feature films that hit theaters in 2007-2009. These four films were split into 16 episodes and aired on Comedy Central as Season 5 from 2008 to 2009.

Comedy Central then picked up Futurama for a regular sixth season, which aired in two parts from 2010 to 2011. The seventh and reportedly final season of the show then aired on Comedy Central from 2012 to 2013, also in two parts. In 2022, Hulu officially revived Futurama for Season 8.

However, Hulu’s revival is actually announced as Futurama Season 11. (Each of the four films counts as one season, in addition to the four Fox seasons and the two regular Comedy Central seasons.) Hulu has commissioned 20 episodes to air in two 10-episode parts. Part 1 is slated to premiere in July this year and run through September.

The new season of Futurama premieres Monday, July 24 on Hulu. episodes is published weekly.
