During a recent interview with The wrapJennifer Lee – best known for directing the first two Frozen movies – has confirmed she won’t be returning as a director Frozen 3, which was first announced earlier this year. She revealed that the story has been pitched by a new filmmaker for the upcoming third installment.
“I can’t tell where we are (with Frozen 3). All of our stories are driven by the artists in the studio. Where we’re going with Frozen wasn’t up to me,” Lee said. “It came from an incredible person. This is a new play, I haven’t told anyone. And it blew my mind and I’m just having a lot of fun with this team.”
Lee is currently Chief Creative Officer at Walt Disney Animation Studios. She wrote the screenplay for Wreck-It Ralph before making her directorial debut with 2013’s Frozen. Her next project is Disney’s upcoming animated musical Wish, which she co-wrote with Allison Moore.
The blockbuster success of the Frozen franchise

The 2019 sequel also grossed more than $1 billion when it hit theaters.
It features the voices of Kristen Bell (The Good Place) as Anna, Idina Menzel (Wicked) as Elsa, Jonathan Groff (Hamilton) as Kristoff, and Josh Gad (Murder on the Orient Express) as Olaf the Snowman, plus Sterling K. Brown, Martha Plimpton, Rachel Matthews, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, Evan Rachel Wood and more.
