In addition to Driver, Ferrari, directed by Mann, also stars Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Jack O’Connell, Sarah Gadon, Patrick Dempsey and Gabriel Leone. Written by Troy Kennedy Martin, the screenplay is based on Brock Yates’ 1991 novel Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine. It is produced by Mann, PJ van Sandwijk, John Lesher, Marie Savare, John Friedberg, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, and Gareth West.

“A biography about the automobile mogul Enzo Ferrari, whose family redefined the idea of ​​the high-performance Italian sports car and practically birthed the concept of Formula 1 racing,” reads the film’s description.

Ferrari marks director Michael Mann’s first film since 2015

Ferrari is Mann’s first directing feature film since 2015’s Blackhat, which starred Chris Hemsworth and was met with mixed reviews upon release. However, the filmmaker served as executive producer on the 2019 film Ford vs. Ferrari, which centered on the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours race in France. Remo Girone took on the role of Enzo Ferrari in Ford vs. Ferrari, while Matt Damon, Christian Bale, Jon Bernthal, Caitríona Balfe and Josh Lucas also starred.

Mann’s best known films include Manhunter (1986), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Heat (1995), The Insider (1999) and Ali (2001). Mann also directed the first episode of HBO Max’s Tokyo Vice series, which aired in April 2022. He also co-wrote the novel Heat 2 with Meg Gardiner in 2022 and is currently working on the film adaptation.
