The star also opened up about why he decided to return to the franchise, citing the explosive fan reaction to the Fast X post-credits scene, which starred Johnson’s return as Luke Hobbs. The Hollywood Reporter says the film is neither a full sequel nor a spin-off, but more of a “Fast X.5”.
The new film will be written and directed by Chris Morgan and produced by Johnson and his partners at Seven Bucks Productions, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. It is also produced by series stars Vin Diesel and Samantha Vincent through their company One Race, Jeff Kirschenbaum for Roth/Kirschenbaum Films and Neal Moritz for Original Film.
Fast X is directed by Transporter director Louis Leterrier, who took over the role of Justin Lin after Lin left the project due to creative differences. The film was written by Lin and Dan Mazeau, with Lin continuing as producer. Fast X is currently in cinemas.
