Danny DeVito is open to reprising his role as Penguin.
DeVito first impersonated the character in the 1992 DC superhero film Batman Returns. There he played Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, a crime boss who takes on Michael Keaton’s version of Batman. This film, directed by Tim Burton, has gone on to become one of the most iconic works in Batman media, with many praising DeVito’s performance.
Since Keaton recently reprized his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman on The Flash, DeVito said he’s open to returning to the character as well. “I would definitely consider it, yes,” DeVito said SFX. “Batman Returns was a great role, it was operatic. You could just pull out all the stops. There were so many things that motivated him, so many things that stirred him up. The role of the strange man – the strange bird – brought the character out of me. It was an emotional experience for me because I felt it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to play Oswald Cobblepot with Tim’s vision and design. To me, Tim is a genius.”
The Penguin was last portrayed by Colin Ferrell in the 2022 film The Batman. Ferrell will reprise the role in an upcoming Max series titled The Penguin.
What is Danny DeVito’s new movie?
His next film will be Haunted Mansion, a Disney film based on the theme park attraction. The film will be released on July 28, 2023.
