Amazon has confirmed that Sarah has cast Catherine Hook (First Kill), Zac Burgess (Totally Completely Fine), Khobe Clarke (Yellowjackets), Brooke Lena Johnson (You) and Sara Silva (The Boys) as Caroline on the series were , Lucien, Scott, Beatrice and Cece. Production is slated to begin in Toronto in early June.
Sean Patrick Thomas, who played Ronald Clifford in the original film, has also signed on for the remake to portray a new character named Professor Chadwick. John Harlan Kim and Myra Molloy were also cast as series regulars on the series Cruel Intentions. It’s currently unclear whether the remake will stream on Freevee or Prime Video.
“Set in Washington, DC, the Cruel Intentions series is about two ruthless step-siblings who will do whatever it takes to stay at the top of the Greek Life hierarchy at their elite college,” reads the synopsis. “When a brutal incident of intimidation threatens the entire panhellenic system, they will do whatever is necessary to preserve their power and reputation… including seducing the US vice president’s daughter.”
The television adaptation will be written and produced by Phoebe Fisher and Sara Goodman. Executive Producers are Original Film Producer Neal H. Moritz, Original Film, Pavun Shetty, Andrea Iervolino and Monica Bacardi of Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment, and Bruce Mellon. It is a Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Studios and Original Film production.
The 1999 film was a modern retelling of the 1782 French novel Les Liaisons hazardeuses. It starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, Ryan Philippe as Sebastian Valmont, Reese Witherspoon as Annette Hargrove and Selma Blair as Cecile Caldwell.
