Next year, Chris Hemsworth should play the leading role Furious, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. Hemsworth went to the shoot “exhausted” from his busy schedule, but thanks to George Miller, it turned out to be “the best experience” of his career.
“In the first week of rehearsals with (Miller), there was a sudden resurgence in my creative energy,” Hemsworth said British GQ. “By far the best experience of my career and something I am most proud of. I’ve been thinking that what matters at work isn’t what’s hard, it’s what kind of work it is, how much I’ve put into it, and whether it’s challenging in the right way.”
What awaits you in Furiosa?
Anya Taylor-Joy plays Emperor Furiosa, the fearless war captain first played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. Taylor-Joy will play a younger version of the character in Furiosa. Hemsworth plays villainous warlord Dementus. Hemsworth looked unrecognizable on set as he sported long hair, a prosthetic nose and a beard.
In addition to Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth, the cast includes Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, Nathan Jones, Daniel Webber, Lachy Hulme and Quaden Bayles.
“When the world ended, young Furiosa is kidnapped by the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a large horde of bikers led by the warlord Dementus,” reads the official synopsis. “On their way through the wasteland, they come across the citadel ruled by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants battle for supremacy, Furiosa must face many trials while assembling the means to find her way home.”
Miller is directing Furiosa from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. Miller will co-produce the film with producing partner Doug Mitchell. Miller’s last Mad Max film, Fury Road, received universal acclaim, winning six Academy Awards at the 88th Academy Awards.
