Pop star Britney Spears was allegedly punched in the face by the security guard of NBA draft pick Victor Wembanyama. Spears has since filed a police report about the confrontation.
What happened to Britney Spears and Spurs Security?
According to an initial report by TMZThe incident happened Wednesday night at the Catch restaurant at the ARIA Hotel in Las Vegas. Entering the restaurant, Spears spotted Wembanyama; accordingly TMZthe star asked the future NBA player for a photo.
According to the report, Spears clapped him on the shoulder. At that point, the San Antonio Spurs director of team safety (who had drafted Wembanyama) turned and punched Spears in the face. TMZ notes that the slap knocked Spears down and she eventually returned to her seat.
Other reports confirm the story. Another TMZ report came from a witness who said Spears was beaten and also spoke with a British accent before and after the incident.
The team’s security director then made his way to Spears’ table. He apologized for the incident, which Spears reportedly accepted.
However, more recent reports indicate that Spears did in fact file a complaint with the police against the man (Damian Smith). TMZ sources say the matter is being taken seriously and could “probably” be referred to the district attorney. It is currently unknown whether criminal charges will be filed. Police arrived at the ARIA Hotel Thursday morning for an interview with Spears.
Recently voted No. 1 overall in the NBA, Wembanyama is considered by many to be one of basketball’s greatest talents of a generation.
