Unfortunately, the rise of Insidious Indiana Jones has cost them dearly. “Dial of Destiny,” which started worse than expected, posted a -56% decline in its second year, grossing $26.5 million, roughly in line with “No Time to Die” (- 57%) corresponds. Indy V has Domestically, $121.2 million has been accumulated and $248 million worldwide, which would be reasonable for an average movie — just not for a $300 million-plus Indiana Jones film. Keep in mind that Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ended up grossing $317 million domestically, $473 million internationally, and $790 million worldwide. Dial of Destiny does not touch these numbers.

On a positive note for Disney, Elemental is showing solid legs. Domestically, the picture has earned $107.9 million after earning $8.4 million (-31%) over the fourth weekend. The film garnered widespread attention internationally, taking the total to $142.7 million with worldwide box office earnings of $252 million. Not bad for an image that many (including me) detonated as a box office bomb a few weeks ago. It’s still not amazing, mind you. “Elemental” is still around $80 million behind “The Good Dinosaur” and probably won’t come close to matching “Toy Story 2” ($511 million), “WALL-E” ($532 million) or Brave ($554 million) could keep up, but at least it surpassed Onward ($133 million) and Lightyear ($218 million).

The big news, of course, is the surprising success of Sound of Freedom. The Angel Studios film, starring Jim Caviezel, grossed $16.9 million over the weekend and has grossed a whopping $38.9 million in its first six days. Those are impressive numbers for an image that cost just $14.5 million apiece Wall Street Journal.
