The Vietnamese authorities have banned performances by Greta Gerwig Barbie movie in their country.

Based on the famous Mattel dolls, the Warner Bros. film stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. This fantasy comedy film was originally slated to hit theaters in Vietnam on July 21, but was scrapped from the release schedule.

There is a scene in the film where we see a “nine-dash line” map depicting China’s territorial claims in the South China Sea, a violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty. As a result, the National Film Appraisal Council in Vietnam forbidden the release of the film.

For the same reason, Dreamworks’ animated film Abomination was banned in 2019.
